Joint Articulation

Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.”  – Albert Einstein

What is joint articulation?

Joints connect our bones and provide the support we need for everyday movement. Strain, stress or injury on the joints not only interferes with that movement, but can also cause pain and discomfort. Knee, shoulder, ankle and hip pain are among the most common areas to be affected, while the most common conditions associated with joint pain include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis and gout. Using a hands-on approach, Dr. Yanai will work to first mobilize the joint, then strengthen the muscles around it, alleviating pain, increasing range of motion and improving the joint’s overall functionality.

How joint articulation works

Dr. Yanai loosens up the restricted joint and increases its range of motion by performing slow but targeted movements directly into the barrier of a joint. This helps the body realign the joint properly in a way patients cannot achieve on their own. Thanks to her education and experience and her firm-but-gentle touch, these mobilizations are generally painless.

How Myofascial Release Works:

Restrictions in myofascial itself can cause minor to severe pain. Myofascial restrictions can also compress adjacent structures such as nerves, blood vessels, joints, and more, which can also cause pain as well as secondary body malfunctions such as misalignment of joints, nerve pain, swelling, and more. Myofascial release can improve viscoelasticity, optimizing functions of myofascial and their adjacent structure.

Included among the multiple disorders joint manipulation can help treat are:

Everyone experiences pain differently. During your first assessment, Dr. Yanai will determine the range of movement and the amount of discomfort that may be limiting joint function. She’ll then design a personalized treatment plan to reduce pain and increase motion. Whether this takes only a few sessions or several more, our ultimate goal is to give you back the active lifestyle you deserve.
