Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

The pelvic floor refers to the layer of muscles that span the bottom of the pelvis and support the pelvic organs. In men, it’s the bladder and bowel; in women, it’s the bladder, bowel and uterus. These muscles provide bowel, bladder and sexual function as well as trunk support. When they’re weakened or impaired, the following may occur:

Disorders of the bladder
Disorders of the bowel
Pain in the abdomen, pelvis or genitalia

Bowel and Bladder: Bowel and bladder disorders refer to problems with urination and the passing of stool. These issues aren’t always easy to discuss, but it’s important to address them so you can get relief. Common bowel and bladder conditions are:

Urinary Incontinence
Urinary Frequency
Chronic constipation
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

At Directions, we prioritize privacy and sensitivity when treating your bowel and bladder issues. After a careful assessment of your medical history, physical symptoms, bowel and bladder routines and diet information, we’ll develop a personalized recovery program that will include manual therapy to mobilize soft and connective tissues around the organs as well as manual muscle stimulation and diet education.
