Craniosacral Therapy

Our sorrows and wounds are healed only when we touch them with compassion.” – Buddha

What is cranio-sacral therapy?

The brain and spinal cord are two vital elements of the central nervous system. The membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect them are known as the craniosacral system. The movement of cerebrospinal fluid, CSF, is considered to create craniosacral movement, or craniosacral rhythm (CSR), that craniosacral therapists are trained to observe and assess. When CSR does not have a symmetry or ranges of motion that it is supposed to have, the whole body can be affected in myriads of different ways. Daily stress and physical strain often compromise this system, causing pain, fatigue and other impairments. Using gentle pressure in a soft series of movements around the face and spine, Dr. Yanai is able to relieve this discomfort. By eliminating constraints on the craniosacral system, it can return to its natural resting state. Soft-touch techniques used in craniosacral therapy can alleviate a wide range of ailments including injury, chronic pain and neurological impairment.

How does cranio-cacral therapy work?

Dr. Yanai uses her hands to assess the cranio-sacral rhythm by gently feeling various locations on the body. Soft-touch techniques are then used to unblock restrictions in and around any tissues influencing this rhythm. In this way, not only can cranio-sacral therapy improve the functioning of the central nervous system, it can alleviate a wide range of ailments including injury, chronic pain and neurological impairment.

What conditions can cranio-sacral therapy address?
